ServSafe Practice Exam

Editorial Policy

Effective date: November 1, 2026 · Last updated: November 1, 2026

This page sets out how content on this site is produced, checked and corrected.

It applies to everything we publish: practice questions, explanations, mock exams and exam pages.

1. What we publish

We do not publish food safety guidance for real workplaces, job listings or course sales.

  • Practice questions and written explanations for the ServSafe Manager, Food Handler, Allergens and Alcohol exams.
  • Timed mock exams built from those questions.
  • Exam pages that describe each exam's format and pass mark.

2. How we verify facts

Questions are written from primary sources, led by the FDA Food Code. Each of the 1,366 questions has a citation with a verbatim quote from its source. A script checks that every quote appears in our saved copy of that source.

Facts about exam formats and pass marks come from ServSafe's own public pages. Where those pages disagree or give no answer, our Sources and Methodology page says so.

Other practice sites are not a source for facts.

3. How practice questions are written

3.1 Original wording

Questions are written in our own words. Scripts compare them with each other and with a saved set of questions from other practice sites, and questions flagged as too similar are rewritten. A similarity check is not proof of originality.

3.2 Every question gets an explanation

Each question carries a written explanation of why the correct answer is correct.

3.3 Scope labels

Of the 1,366 questions, 1,315 are labeled as aligned with the current exams. Ten test provisions that are new in the 2026 FDA Food Code and 41 have uncertain exam alignment. Those 51 are kept out of the timed mock exams.

4. How questions are reviewed

Every question and all four of its options had an individual review, and parts of the bank had a second, independent review.

Automated checks confirm citations, review records, counts and overlap. They do not prove that a judgment about a fact is correct.

5. Authorship and accountability

ServSafe Practice Exam publishes as a brand, without personal bylines. The ServSafe Practice Team answers for what appears on the site.

6. Advertising and editorial separation

The site carries no ads today. Advertising is planned. Advertisers will not see content before publication and will have no right of approval over it.

7. Updates and corrections

Reviews are tied to a hash of the question and of the saved source text. If either changes, the question has to be reviewed again.

Our Corrections policy explains how to report an error and what we do about it.
